Tips for a great visit

  • Pack the right clothes
Layers are best for our changing Irish weather.
  • Bringing kids? Bring snacks!
Kids are always happier when their bellies are full. You are also welcome to pack a picnic
  • Make the most of every experience
Try a little fishing, even if you don’t think it’s your thing. It just might be!
  • Sunscreen Sunscreen Sunscreen
Even on a cloudy day! There will always be that sea breeze, which makes us forget about how hot the sun is. Put on a cap/sun hat and don’t forget the sun glasses.
  • Don’t forget your camera!
You will fill up your memory bank on a trip with us. It’s always good to have a camera to capture some

Last but not least, have fun! The main reason you book a trip is to spend a fantastic day on board with your friends and family!

Safety First

Check the Weather and
Prepare Accordingly

A day out of the water enjoying the beautiful scenery of the West Cork Coast sounds wonderful—unless bad weather hits. Before you head out on a boat tour, check the weather for the day. Wear layers if it’s cooler. Even if it’s summertime and it seems like a nice sunny day, things can change quickly as well. Remember that out on the water, the temperature tends to drop quickly. Bring a jacket and hat as well as sunscreen or a hat to protect yourself from the sun. We will cancel the tour if the weather is truly hazardous, but you’re the one who has to protect yourself from the natural elements.

Always Use Common Sense

Our skippers will give a safety brief on arrival. Pay close attention to the details. Take note of the safety procedures and the locations of safety equipment on the vessel before the tour starts. Use common sense during the entirety of the boat tour.

Wear a Life Jacket

Children under 16yrs old MUST always wear a floatation device. Adults are not required to wear them, but we do advise that you wear one. We supply auto inflate life jackets. Auto inflate life jackets have the advantage of being light to wear with ease of movement. Ideal for angling, an auto inflate life jacket is designed to remain compact until full buoyancy is needed. The buoyancy is provided by activating the CO2 cylinder that inflates air tight chambers contained inside the lifejacket

REVIEWS

What people are saying about our boat tours

“Absolutely brilliant. Ireland’s waters are extremely rich in life and the displays here are top-notch. I learned a *lot*. Thanks to very helpful staff member Laura, I learned that the lumpsuckers – beautiful fish — need to be “burped” occasionally, in their tank! The variety of wrasses was amazing, as were the anglerfish and the seahorse. I plan to dive on Monday if the weather cooperates, but I am sure I saw more here than I will in the wild!”

“Amazing day out! Best boat tour we have ever done! Skipper Brian gave us the best experience possible, with his depth of local knowledge, passion for the area and hugely entertaining personality. We learned about the local wildlife, fished for mackerel, and he even cooked us up a tasty pot of mussels!”

“I booked the wildlife tour, Sea angling, and the sunset cruise for my family. We had the absolute best time with BB Charters. Darren and Brian were excellent guides and great with our 2 children. We learned a lot about the history of the area as well as the sea life. Sharon was brilliant advising us what to bring to make sure we were prepared for all of our trips. We will definitely be back next year. Thank you Bantry Bay Charters!”
