Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to bring with me on my trip?
Here is a link to a handy checklist, that covers pretty much every thing you will need for your day trip with Bantry Bay Charters CHECKLIST

Do I need to wear a life jacket?
Children under 16yrs old MUST always wear a floatation device.
Adults are not required to wear them, but we do advise that you wear one.

We have PFD ( personnel floatation Devices ) which are foam waist coat type. They are light and comfortable to wear and can be used while swimming and/or around the pier and beach etc.

We have 16 IMO full Abandon ship, that are required by the Dept Of marine, these keep you afloat for at least 36 hrs ( if required) they are big and Bulky and only used if we need to leave the boat

We also supply Auto inflate life jackets. Inflatable Life Jackets have the advantage of being light to wear with ease of movement.
Ideal for yachting, sports/power boating, angling aviation and industrial use. An inflatable life jacket is designed to remain compact until full buoyancy is needed. The buoyancy is provided by activating the CO2 cylinder that inflates air tight chambers contained inside the lifejacket.

Are children welcome?
Yes, children of all ages are very welcome. We run trips of varying lengths and it is down to the parents to decide what style and length of trip would be suitable for their children.
Some charters are not suitable for younger children i.e The Offshore fishing trip is suitable for children 12yrs+

What if a member of our party gets sea sick?
Please note that the boat will only return to port by agreement of all passengers. If you are unsure about how you will handle the sea, or if you suffer from motion sickness, we advise that you take motion sickness medication at least an hr before your trip begins.

What is the Maximum group size?
The Max number is currently 40 passengers. Should you have a larger group, we can make arrangements to accommodate you.

What is the Minimum group size?
Anyone can book on their own, although it is not viable for us to run an adventure with less than 6 people so smaller parties will be sharing with other parties or charged for private charter, whichever the preference.

How do I book?
You can book online or by phone, email or by messaging us here on our website. Contact us

What if I need to cancel my booking?
If you need to cancel your booking please contact us by phone or email as soon as possible. We offer a full refund providing you let us know 48hrs in advance of your charter.

Can all of our group go fishing on the boat?
You will all have a chance to fish, however, only up to 6 people can fish at one time to avoid too many people bringing fish onboard at one time.

What safety policies do you operate?
"Deep Star" is fully equipped with life jackets, a life raft (Life Raft Instructions), flares, thermal blankets, a first aid kit and a VHF radio. All crew are fully trained in sea survival, first aid and rescue and trips will only be run in safe conditions. Your safety is our utmost priority!

Can we tie up or anchor in sheltered waters?
If you would like to customise your full day charter, it will be possible to tie up or anchor in sheltered waters, where you can swim, snorkel, have lunch and so much more.

Can I bring my dog on a charter?
Dogs are very welcome, but only on private charters. We have a few doggie floatation jackets available on request.

Where will our Charter leave from?
You can book a charter from both Glengarriff or Bantry.

GLENGARRIFF PIER-
From Bantry side you will pass the Eccles hotel on the right. Take the left turn at the end of that straight. You will see our sign at the turnoff. You will board the boat from the pontoon.
From Beara/Kerry side you will drive through the village and take the right turn just after the bottle bank.

BANTRY RAILWAY PIER- You will see a large SuperValu shop from the water edge. We leave from the pier on that side of the Bay. Go down the pier, through the gate and you will board the boat from the pontoon.

Are the boats wheelchair accessible?
We have one boat that is wheelchair accessible so get in touch and let us know your needs and we will do all we can to help.

Do boats go out on rainy days?
Yes we run boat tours on rainy days. We generally only cancel for wind. Our boats have canopy cover and we have a supply of rain ponchos onboard.

PARKING:
Glengarriff - Due to a lot of tour buses coming and going from the pier during the tourist season, it is not always possible to park along side it. Therefore we ask, where possible, to drop off passengers and bags near the pier and park your car along the top of the road.
Bantry - We will be picking up from the railway pier, therefore, you can drop passengers and bags close by the pier and park in the public car park along side Supervalu
IMPORTANT TRIP INFORMATION
All charters are dependent on weather and fish catches and dolphin/whale sightings cannot be guaranteed. The Irish weather and Atlantic Ocean sea conditions can be unpredictable during the year, even in summer. Our Skipper will make their decision to sail based on many years of experience, always keeping in mind passenger safety and comfort. However, depending on wind direction and swell, it may be possible to go ahead with your charter within sheltered waters.
