BANTRY / GLENGARRIFF HARBOUR TOUR
Minimum of 6 passengers required for this trip to run
2.5 hrs
2.5 hrs
Departing from Bantry Railway Pier, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays 10am and 3pm.
Our Harbour tour is a fantastic way to see the south west coast and all it has to offer. Bantry Bay and Glengarriff harbour has an abundance of wildlife, breathtaking views and waters immersed in history.
From the second you leave the pier, you'll encounter firstly local sea birds, including oyster catcher, curlew, grey heron, egret and cormorant, while passing the magnificent Bantry House in the distance. On the west side of Whiddy Island, you can view the famous Whiddy Island Oil terminal and the abandoned jetty off Whiddy Island, which has now become a breeding colony for Cormorants and Shags, where their nests and fledglings can be seen all year.
You will cruise across the bay, taking in the sights and keeping an eye out for Marine Wildlife along the way. Harbour Porpoise are resident all year round. These shy and elusive creatures can be seen on our daily tours. Common dolphins tend to move inshore early summer through to September and are a popular sighting with our visitors during our trips down the bay. Groups of adults and young from 8 to 50 in a group can be seen and often bow ride along with the boat, creating a lifetime memory for everyone onboard.
On approach to Glengarriff harbour you will see the world famous Garnish Island. Garnish Island is home to Glengarriff's resident White Tailed Sea Eagles known as 'P' and Brendan. If you are lucky you may see one flying overhead.
A mixed colony of both Atlantic Grey Seals and Common Seals occurs on the outlying islands off Glengarriff, which are easily viewed as you pass, hauled out on the prominent rock and reefs.
You haven't seen Bantry Bay until you take this tour!
